Michigan Opera Theatre is proud to announce Yuval Sharon as our new artistic director! Under Yuval's artistic leadership, we are also thrilled to announce Twilight: Gods, a unique production of Richard Wagner’s Twilight of the Gods, the last opera of his Ring Cycle, which will take place in our Detroit Opera House Parking Structure.

Yuval is one of the most in-demand and innovative names in opera today. He made history as the first American invited to direct at Bayreuth Festival Theatre in Germany, as the first director entrusted with one of Meredith Monk’s works, and as the director of the first fully-staged opera in the Musikverein’s 150-year history. He is widely known for city-spanning operas staged in moving cars, radically collaborative bulwarks against historical revisionism, and immersive site-specific works with his Los Angeles company, The Industry.

Equal parts drive-in theater and opera, Twilight: Gods gives audience members the opportunity to watch Wagner’s drama unfold scene-by-scene from the safety and comfort of their cars, while the live performance (sung in English) is broadcast to car stereos—a full immersion in the world of the Ring. The performance features acclaimed opera singers Christine Goerke, Sean Panikkar, Donnie Ray Albert and Morris Robinson. It also features Detroit artist Marsha Music performing new poetry that connects Wagner’s mythological world with the here-and-now of our city and our time.
