Screening of M. Butterfly at The Maple Theater
In anticipation of Detroit Opera’s upcoming new production of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Detroit Opera and the Maple Theater are excited to present a special screening of David Cronenberg’s 1993 romantic drama, M. Butterfly, starring Jeremy Irons, John Lone, Barbara Sukowa, and Ian Richardson. The plot of M. Butterfly is intertwined with the plot of Puccini’s 1904 opera. In 1960s China, French diplomat Rene Gallimard falls in love with opera singer Song Liling. However, Song retains a secret the entire time of their 20-year affair.
Join us prior to the screening for opening remarks and a preview of Detroit Opera's staging of the opera, which will be presented at the Detroit Opera House, October 7-15.
