Why Choose Detroit Opera?
It’s a Cultural Force…
Over the last half-century, Detroit Opera has become a deeply rooted cultural force in a city of innovation and diverse perspectives, presenting programs that resonate with patrons of all ages and backgrounds.
Appointed as our second-ever Artistic Director in 2020, Yuval Sharon has been described by The New York Times as “the most visionary opera director of his generation.” With an emphasis on engagement, accessibility, and artistic risk-taking, he has begun to set an ambitious standard for opera in America, and has energized Detroit Opera and our communities while garnering unprecedented media attention and acclaim.
In addition to groundbreaking opera, we are the only American opera company to present full seasons of dance. Every year, our Artistic Director for Dance, Jon Teeuwissen, thoughtfully curates an eclectic roster of internationally celebrated dance ensembles who are invited to grace our stage. Companies that have delighted and amazed our audiences in recent years include Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, The Joffrey Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and many others.
…In a Historic Venue
Constructed more than 100 years ago and boasting a storied history, the Detroit Opera House—our beautiful home—is one of this city’s most iconic cultural landmarks and a treasured community gathering place. The 2,700-seat hall features superb acoustics and wonderfully ornate Italian Renaissance decor, and is the venue of choice for galas, weddings, and other special events.
By adding the Detroit Opera House to your company’s existing suite of entertainment venues, you’ll be securing:
- Access to VIP experiences at opera and dance performances that can’t be bought
- Increased visibility for your brand among our most influential and high-net-worth patrons
- A role in Detroit’s widely publicized cultural renaissance
