While we wish that we could grant all requests, as a non-profit organization we must limit the number of contributions we make annually. Donations are limited to one-per-year and must be submitted 6 weeks in advance of your event for approval and processing.

Children are welcome for Opera and Dance. However, all guests are required to hold a ticket, regardless of age. Babies in arms are not permitted. And, while we do not enforce a universal age limit for performances, we do ask parents to use their best judgement regarding the appropriateness of individual performances for their own children. We ask all of our guests to be considerate of their fellow patrons so everyone is able to enjoy the performance without unnecessary distraction.

Events such as Broadway musicals may establish their own age restrictions. Please refer to their websites for complete details.

Strollers should be left in your vehicle for all performances. During private events like graduations or weddings, strollers may be brought in the building and then stored in a special area with other mobility devices. They are not permitted in the theater unless it is for medical reasons.

Coat Check is located at the Guest Services desks in the Vincent Lobby (Madison Street side) and the Broadway Lounge (Broadway Street side of the building adjacent to the Ford Lobby). Please note that the Detroit Opera House does not accept responsibility for any personal articles.

There are a variety of food and beverage items available at multiple bar locations throughout the lobbies on the main floor, second floor, and third floor.

At any given performance you may see evening gowns and blue jeans. Most people dress somewhere in between, i.e., business attire or Sunday best. Formal attire is always welcome but most of our patrons reserve it for premieres and galas.

Most importantly, you should dress comfortably, and remember that if you want to dress up, the opera provides a perfect excuse!

Patrons arriving after the performance begins may need to be seated in an alternate location to avoid disrupting the performance. Please plan to arrive early.

Lost and Found is at the Safety and Security Department Located at the Madison Stage and Administrative Office Entrance. Please see an usher if you have misplaced an article, or call 313. 961.3500. Items will be held in Lost and Found for 30 days.

Women’s restrooms are located off the Ford Lobby (Broadway Street entrance) and down the stairs, and on the third floor (Madison Street entrance). Men’s restrooms are located under the Grand Staircase and on the third floor (Broadway Street side). There are two sets of elevators or stairs available to access all third-floor restrooms. All third-floor restrooms are wheelchair accessible (women’s restroom, press 3R in the elevator). There are single use unisex wheelchair accessible restrooms on the first floor of the Broadway Street side and the Madison Street side. There is also a wheelchair accessible Women’s restroom on the Broadway Street side.
