Nathalie Doucet

Since 1997, pianist Nathalie Doucet has enjoyed an international career working with many of the finest artists, producing organizations, and educational institutions worldwide.

As a répétiteur, coach, and collaborative pianist, Ms. Doucet has worked with a number of premier producing organizations, singers, and conductors including: The Dutch National Opera, the Nederlandse Reisopera, NTR-Zaterdagmatinee, Het Concertgebouworkest, Muziekgebouw aan het Ij, Opéra de Montréal, the Canadian Opera Company, and Het Concertgebouw; Christine Goerke, Lisette Oropesa,  Étienne Dupuis, Lianna Haroutounian, Maria Agresta, Nicola Alaimo, Michèle Losier, Julie Boulianne, and Cheryl Studer; and Bernard Haitink, Charles Dutoit, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Markus Stenz, James Gaffigan, Karel Mark Chichon, Stéphane Denève, Richard Egarr, Edoardo Müller, and Jaap van Zweden.

Since October 2021, Ms. Doucet is Head of Music and Director of Detroit Opera’s (formerly Michigan Opera Theater Resident Artist Program at Detroit Opera) in Michigan, USA. In her role as Head of Music, she has played an integral part in each production in the 2021-2022 season, more notably in helping to create the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Anthony Davis’ opera X-The Life and Times of Malcolm X. Along with Christine Goerke, Detroit Opera’s Associate Artistic Director, Ms. Doucet is redesigning the Resident Artist Training program which will be launched in September of 2022.

An esteemed and highly experienced educator, Ms. Doucet spent ten years as a faculty member of the Classical Voice Department at the prestigious Conservatorium van Amsterdam where she worked as a vocal coach, Music Director for the concert opera series, French Lyric Diction teacher, and co-teacher for the undergraduate and graduate Opera Classes. She possesses extensive experience in young artist training and development, administration, and management, having served as Director of the Young Artist and Youth Opera Programs at Opera Orlando; Head Coach for the Opera Studio Nederlands; Principal coach for the Dutch National Opera Academy; Music Director of Des Moines Metro Opera’s Opera Iowa tour; Guest Lecturer at the University of Tennessee Knoxville and Principle Pianist/Coach of the Knoxville Opera Company, vocal coach at the University of Toronto, and piano teacher and collaborative pianist at York University.

In addition to her work as a coach and collaborative pianist, Ms. Doucet speaks five languages and specializes in teaching French Lyric Diction. Due to her extensive study of, experience with, and passion for French opera and art song, Ms. Doucet is a sought-after French Diction coach – singers and organizations from all over the world come to her for role study and language refinement. She has recently joined the faculty as French diction coach of the Musical Horizons Conservatory in Athens, Greece.

Ms. Doucet has served as an official accompanist for numerous competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Neue Stimmen, the Belvedere Singing Competition, the Heinz Rehfuss Vocal Competiton, and the International Vocal Competition’ s-Hertogenbosch (IVC). She is regularly invited to be on faculty for many international summer-training programs, including the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS), the Center for Opera Studies in Italy (COSI), Musiktheater Bavaria, Summer Opera Lyric Theatre, and the Highlands Opera Studio.

Ms. Doucet received her bachelor’s degree in piano performance and pedagogy from l’Université de Moncton, her master’s degree in piano performance from l’Universtié de Montréal, and a specialized Artist Diploma in piano performance under the tutelage of Claude Savard. A native of Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada, Ms. Doucet pursued post-graduate studies and was mentored by internationally acclaimed pianist and coach, the late Dixie Ross-Neill.
