Principal Chorus Conductor, Detroit Opera Youth Chorus

Rebecca O-G Eaddy brings a wide range of experience to the Detroit Opera Youth Chorus as a professional opera singer and as a music educator. She has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Toledo Opera. With Detroit Opera, Rebecca has sung in more than 15 opera productions, most recently as a Niña in Osvaldo Golijov’s Fountain of Tears (Ainadamar) in 2023, and as a frequent featured singer in the company’s community concerts in metro Detroit. Rebecca was awarded first place at the highly competitive National Association of Negro Musicians national Vocal Competition. She has performed as featured soloist with the American Spiritual Ensemble on national and international tours including in Ireland and France. She also sang in the New York Harlem Productions’ tour of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess in Switzerland, the Netherlands and France. Rebecca began her music journey in her early teens, when she attended summer youth opera camp at Detroit Opera (then Michigan Opera Theatre), an experience that inspired her to study music professionally. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education from the University of Michigan and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Bowling Green State University. She has served as the vocal music instructor at Detroit’s John R. King Academy and Performing Arts Academy, where she developed innovative curricula for the school. She is a member of the inaugural cohort of Chorus America’s Choral Executive Leadership Academy, a leadership development program designed to create career pathways with specific attention to unique challenges facing leaders of color.
