Thomas is very excited to be back at Detroit Opera. His body of design work in the U.S. includes the Santa Fe Opera, Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center, LA Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Seattle Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Dallas Opera, Atlanta Opera, and San Diego Opera.

His work in regional theater includes Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Center Stage in Baltimore, Dallas Theater Center, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and Indiana Repertory Theatre.

In New York, his work has been seen both on Broadway—with Company (Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical), which also aired on PBS—and Off-Broadway, as well as at the New York City Opera and BAM Next Wave festival.

Worldwide his work includes the Vienna State Opera; Bayerische Staatsoper; Staatstheater Kassel; Deutsche Oper am Rhein; Theater Erfurt; Stadttheater Giessen; the Barbican and Sadler’s Wells in London; Opera North in Leeds; the Abbey Theatre and Riverdance in Dublin; the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona; Malmo Opera in Sweden; the Dutch, Finnish, and Colombian National Operas; Nationale Reisopera and Disney’s European partner, Stage Holdings/Stage Entertainment, in the Netherlands; the Helikon Opera in Moscow; Opera National de Bordeaux; Opera de Marseille; the Canadian Opera Company; the Luminato Festival in Toronto; the Singapore International Festival of Arts; and Tokyo Metro Arts Center.
