Masterclasses

All classes are open to dancers that meet the specified requirements and free with a corresponding ticket stub or $25 without a ticket stub, and take place in the Margo V. Cohen Center for Dance in the Ford Center for Learning at the Detroit Opera House. Pre-registration is required because of space limitations.

Join MOT and DTH to explore dance making and physical exploration, learning about the Diaspora from Africa to America and how the contributions of people from different countries in Africa impacted the evolution of American culture.

The workshop will focus on:

development • Historical connections to music and dance

Ailey Experience

March 7 and 8, 2020

Join us for special technique classes with live accompanists and an in-depth study of Alvin Ailey’s classics with masterpieces such as Revelations, Blues Suite, and Night Creature. These works feature classic blues, gospel, traditional spirituals, and jazz songs that are essential to Ailey’s work.

No experience necessary and all levels are welcome!
