Please note: For each of the selections we ask that you play the piano reduction as well as sing each of the individual vocal parts. We are not testing your ability as a singer; do not worry if it does not sound “beautiful.” What we are ascertaining is your absorption of the basic content of the voice parts, and your ability to demonstrate this while simultaneously playing the piano reduction.

The Detroit Opera Chorus is a professional ensemble made up of singers from the Metro Detroit area. Choristers employed by Detroit Opera are represented by the American Guild of Musical Artists.

Position Summary
The Associate Major Gifts Officer position is a key member of the Development Department’s team who will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of current and prospective donors. The Associate Major Gifts Officer is an opportunity for a motivated and experienced development professional to impact strategy and growth for Detroit Opera’s Development Department. This position requires both strategic vision and a hands-on approach with knowledge of all facets of development and a good working understanding of nonprofit best practices. The successful candidate will be motivated to network socially and have a call and passion for building relationships with those in decision making positions; is high energy with a positive attitude and the ability to provide superior donor service; and is a dynamic self-starter who can think strategically and provide solutions.
This position reports to the Major Gifts Officer.
Specific Responsibilities:
- In partnership with board and staff leadership, support strategy of Detroit Opera's annual giving, capital, and other identified campaigns.
- Develop & manage a portfolio of approximately 100 - 125 qualified major individual gift prospects with the goal of securing investments in the capital campaign and artistic initiatives as well as maintaining and increasing investments in the annual fund.
- Key staff manager for the solicitation and stewardship of the DiChiera Society - an annual portfolio of donors that give $2,500+.
- Build and facilitate plans to cultivate existing donors and prospects with the goal of opening new opportunities for funding and to deepen existing relationships.
- Collaborate with the Major Gifts Officer to prepare a yearly Work Plan, aligned with financial targets, as well as professional goals and objectives.
- Keep detailed, comprehensive and accurate records of contacts with all prospects and donors
- Participate in all events of the Development department including donor stewardship events, don.or lounge shifts, board engagement and other key fundraising events throughout the year.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of development experience with increasing levels of responsibility and achievement in executing a successful fundraising program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in personal solicitations of gifts $2,500+.
- Demonstrated fundraising results.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with an ability to work easily and effectively with volunteers and staff, and sensitive to the needs of individuals and able to maneuver within multiple departments.

Position Summary:
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for ensuring the financial well-being of Detroit Opera, including short- and long-term financial and capital planning, accounting, forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting, treasury, and endowment management. The CFO will serve as the principal financial officer of the company, overseeing financial and various administrative functions.
Specific Responsibilities:
- With the CEO, formulates the long- and short-term financial strategies for Detroit Opera and establish annual financial goals for the company, in collaboration with members of the senior management team and the Board Finance Committee.
- Provides financial guidance and strategic direction for all dimensions of the business impacting revenue and expense. Monitors ongoing financial performance against objectives; identifies problems and initiates appropriate corrective action.
- Establishes and ensures timely, accurate, and transparent financial reports to management and the Board of Directors.
- Develops and maintains cash and credit management programs working closely with the Finance Committee of the Board.
- Evaluates and advises on debt financing and debt obligations.

Work Schedule: Part time. Mandatory rehearsals from 5:30-8:30 Monday nights, with occasional Saturday rehearsals during the season, and some nights leading up to and during performances.

Position Summary:
The Conductor of the Detroit Opera Youth Chorus (DOYC) leads a talented group of 11- to 17-year-olds who are interested in learning how to sing at a high level. The Conductor of the DOYC upholds Detroit Opera’s (DO) tradition of excellence by ensuring that the DOYC is trained and ready to perform at their annual concerts.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Select repertoire suitable for children’s voices and appropriate for training students in choral singing.
- Provide instruction and develop the vocal and ensemble skills of young singers.
- Incorporate theory instruction. Currently DOYC uses A Young Singer’s Journey.
- Plan and execute weekly rehearsals.
- Prepare and conduct singers to perform at concerts, DOYC opera, and other performances throughout the season.
- Keep current with new choral repertoire and collaborate with DOYC staff on programming.
- Assist staff with concert-related logistics as needed.
- Communicate regularly and clearly with families of singers regarding musical issues.
- Communicate with accompanist regarding rehearsals and concerts.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education; or Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance with classroom teaching experience; or Bachelor of Music Degree in Choral Conducting.
- Experience and knowledge in working with the young developing child voice.
- Proficient in piano skills.
- Capable of teaching music theory and solfege.
- Passion for working with children and strong belief in and understanding of the benefits of performance-based music education.
- Strong knowledge of vocal production and choral techniques.
- Knowledge of choral techniques, vocal pedagogy and a broad range of age-appropriate choral repertoire for children 8-17 years.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

Position Summary:
Detroit Opera (DO) is southeast Michigan’s premier venue for opera and dance, and is a contemporary cultural-corner stone of the City of Detroit. Located in the heart of downtown, near Comerica Park, Detroit Opera offers a dynamic work environment. DO Crowd Managers work with the Security Team to provide services designed to ensure the safety of Detroit Opera and the Detroit Opera House patrons, visitors, performers during performances and other events. Through working cohesively with the DO Security and Events teams Crowd Managers work to secure the safety of patrons, visitors, and performers by regulating traffic control, maintaining access to entrances and emergency exits, and performing security screenings—when required.
Responsibilities:
- Regulate traffic by managing the movement of activities and guests
- Monitor entrances and exits to ensure proper egress, in accordance
- Observe crowds in order to keep vigilant watch for signs of danger
- Correspond with the Manager on Duty, Director of Security, and the Manager of Venue Operations to adequately provide emergency care within the existing security plan framework.
- Ensure security and safety of patrons, visitors, performers, and staff, through adherence to DO security policies

Position Summary
An essential role at Detroit Opera, the Database Operations Manager (DOM) is charged with maintaining and curating robust data systems, crucial to the continual operations of both the Development and Marketing Departments. Highly proficient in Tessitura software, the DOM manages the integrity of ticket sales information and all donor information, and provides comprehensive reporting to the Development, Marketing and Finance Departments to aid them in their goals. The DOM is an excellent multi-tasker who operates well working under pressure of competing deadlines and technical challenges, while quickly learning and adapting to new technologies. The DOM is a superb problem solver, utilizing interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and coordinate with Detroit Opera staff, while maintaining strong attention to detail to support the Development team in their fundraising goals.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain systems and complex mailing lists for fundraising billing, direct mail (for Development and Marketing), donor prospecting, and other needs outside of Tessitura.
- Provide training for team members to facilitate individually produced, regularly needed data tracking and reporting. Develop and document processes to train and educate staff.
- Provide data-driven business intelligence to support grant reports, marketing decisions, and other business information needs. Additionally, provide instruction and assistance to Marketing, Development and Finance departments in interpreting analytics.
- Maintain the integrity of the database, including scheduling regular patch installations and identifying areas of improvement within the scheduled procedures in SSMS and the systems in place for front-end use.
- Participate in establishing and enforcing Data Protection policies and PCI compliance regulations.
- Manage Tessitura-provided plugins like Analytics, NSCAN, and TNEW as well as third party applications that integrate with Tessitura.
- Establish and oversee best practices around the reconciliation and analysis of financial information between Tessitura and the General Ledger, including fundraising reporting and sales.
- Provide Tessitura functionality expertise and support to application users in the design and execution of Lists, Extractions, Output Sets, CSIs, data imports/exports, and Tessitura Dashboard analytics.
- Work proactively with colleagues to drive Tessitura and data management initiatives, lead internal power user group, and participate in the Michigan group for Tessitura.
- Coordinate and manage testing for integration projects, data quality and integrity across all systems.
- Manage the Extended Services relationship and serve as the main business contact for administration of Tessitura and RAMP.
- Manage the flow of troubleshooting tickets issues and other problems from all staff to Tessitura, resolving a majority of them on-site.
- Support third party vendor relationships.
- Assist when needed with answering phones, reminder calls, or event registration.
- Lead the configuration, maintenance, development and set up of ticketing system for all productions, seasons and other ticketed events as well as set up of fundraising systems within Tessitura.

Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years’ experience working with and administering Tessitura customer relationship management system, or a comparable relational database; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience building events in Tessitura and/or Ticketmaster or other ticketing system.
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI, macros, and merge coding.
- Demonstrated, excellent troubleshooting skills; must be able to communicate effectively with all staff members and understand their business requirements.

Position Summary:
The Director of Marketing and Communications (DoMC) is responsible for the successful development and implementation of Detroit Opera’s (DO) marketing, branding, sales, research, and communications efforts. Simultaneously, the DoMC is responsible for developing a cohesive marketing strategy, curating the company’s image, and raising visibility and awareness of DO both locally and nationally to support all institutional goals. This position reports to the Chief Marketing and Development Officer, supervises the marketing and communications functions of the department, and leads the management team with the formulation and implementation of plans directed towards the achievement of the company’s strategic plan.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Lead initiatives in the development and implementation of innovative marketing, communications, and sales/service strategies to achieve revenue goals, build the DO brand, promote opera and dance offerings, and raise awareness both locally and nationally of DO programs and achievements.
- Develop annual communication strategies and plans for DO and oversee the implementation of all related aspects.

- Develop season and single ticket sales goals and revenue projections in collaboration with other senior leaders, and the Senior Manager of Ticketing and Box Office Operations.
- Lead discussions relating to the determination of ticket pricing, discounting, and scaling of performance venues to maximize attendance and revenue.
- Lead DO’s research efforts to better understand and respond to its patrons utilizing both qualitative and quantitative forms of research.
- Steward the DO brand, including consistently enforcing company-wide use of graphics standards and style guidelines as well as key organizational messages.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related degree, or equivalent education and experience.
- Seven or more years of experience successfully leading marketing and communications functions of a complex organization. Performing arts experience preferred.
- Five years of focused experience in customer or member acquisition and retention.
- Ability to understand diverse perspectives and acknowledge the significance of differences and complexities in backgrounds, cultures, values, and viewpoints as the foundation for an inclusive environment.
- Proven ability to build strong brands and increase earned income.
- Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with email marketing, ticketing systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with marketing communication disciplines and multi-channel campaign design and execution.
- Experience with Tessitura preferred.
- Preference for candidates with experience in a subscription-based environment.

Position Summary:
Detroit Opera (DO) is southeast Michigan’s premier venue for opera and dance, and is a contemporary cultural-corner stone of the City of Detroit. Located in the heart of downtown, near Comerica Park, Detroit Opera offers a dynamic work environment. DO Event Medics work with the Security Team to provide services designed to ensure the health and safety of Detroit Opera and the Detroit Opera House patrons, visitors, performers during performances and other events. Event Medics work to secure the safety of patrons, visitors, and performers by providing immediate medical care to any and all individuals who fall ill, to be vigilant of individuals displaying signs or symptoms of illness, to call for or facilitate communication with emergency first responders, and provide crowd management services for the safety of patrons, visitors, employees and artists.
Responsibilities:
- Immediately respond to all medical emergencies in accordance with the relevant procedures and policies.
- Observe crowds in order to keep vigilant watch for symptoms and early signs of illness or medical emergencies.
- Treat symptoms of minor injuries, such as small cuts/scrape, dizziness, nausea, headaches, contacting emergency medical services as needed.
- Correspond with the Manager on Duty, Director of Security, and the Manager of Venue Operations to adequately provide emergency medical care within the existing security plan framework.
- Participate in traffic control duties for large events, as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to pass state background check
- EMT-B license
- Demonstrated ability to work ethically and dependably
Desired Qualifications:
- EMT-I license or EMT-P license highly preferred
- Nursing/other health care experience
- Security experience
- Crowd manager experience

Through a meticulous security strategy, Detroit Opera Security Officers provide services designed to ensure the protective security of Detroit Opera staff, patrons, visitors and performers; and the Detroit Opera House buildings and grounds. Incumbents in this position will secure premises, personnel, patrons and guests by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; patrolling and inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry and checking credentials. During performances and other large events with visiting attendees, Security Officers monitor crowds, and provide crowd management services for the safety of visitors, employees and artists.
Responsibilities:
- Patrol and secure the Detroit Opera House.
- Monitor and analyze CCTV camera footage.
- Protect company assets relative to theft, assault, fire and other safety issues; guard valuables in a secure area
- Respond to alarms and emergencies, communicate any irregularities with management
- Keep a thorough incident report record; follow procedures for various initiatives including fire prevention, traffic control and accident investigations
- Check visitors in and out of the Detroit Opera House, and escort visitors around the premises.
