AUDITION DETAILS: must include two arias. One in English and one in a foreign language. Music must be memorized. Operatic repertoire is preferred, but standard oratorio selections will be accepted. Sight reading may be requested. Singers are required to bring their own music in the correct key. Detroit Opera will provide an accompanist.

Position Summary:
The main purpose of the Communications and Media Relations Manager is to develop and implement communication strategies with Detroit Opera’s (hereby referred to as DO) key constituencies, to promote a positive brand and name recognition within the community, while simultaneously increasing awareness of the organization’s mission and fundraising efforts. Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, this position is responsible for coordinating organization-wide voice, message, and content generation, including electronic and print communications, as well as advocacy, media, and public relations efforts. This position works to achieve brand consistency, coordination of messaging, and the highest standards for both internal and external communications. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of three years’ experience in writing/communications; must be an excellent communicator with a demonstrated ability to speak and write in a clear, concise, grammatically meticulous, and persuasive manner; a strong sense of initiative; strong managerial qualities; and an ability to work independently and with great attention to detail.
Position Responsibilities:
- Serve as contact for all public relations media outlets, sometimes in conjunction with external PR Firms
- Work closely with marketing, PR, and development teams to develop communications strategies
- Work in collaboration with DO’s Storyteller/Digital Media Manager to craft and distribute the organization’s story to the greater Detroit and Southeast Michigan areas
- Coordinate and oversee the production of all print collateral, working closely with Marketing and Development staff to ensure consistent branding, messaging (including season brochure, impact report, program books, invitations, donor and patron letters, fact sheets, and other collateral), and donor recognition
- Research productions and artists to craft and tailor content for various company publications
- Create and distribute of press releases, effectively pitch stories to all media outlets
- Maintain DO press contacts lists and foster exceptional relationships with media outlets
- Provide DO’s Board and CEO with talking points and program letters
- Craft production and event blurbs
- Craft and/or proof and edit letters to donors, VIPs, and other DO associates
- Edit and proof musician bios
- Craft company newsletters with content from other departments
- Cultivate relationships with community partners and the press
- Help in the procurement and management of production photography
- Assist with managing photo and video distribution and usage
- Write and develop stories, advertorials, blogs, etc.
- Coordinate the booking of TV, radio, and print interviews
- Respond to requests for information from patrons via social media chats
- Develop a yearly communication plan with Development to ensure regular and consistent messaging – collaborating with the marketing and development teams
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or a similarly related field from an accredited college or university
- Minimum three years of experience in communications/public relations
- Demonstrated grammar, vocabulary, and communications skills, both verbal and written, with knowledge of AP Style of writing
- Creativity, innovative vision, and passion for out-of-the-box thinking
- Demonstrated multi-tasking and problem solving skills; ability to meet competing deadlines

Position Summary:
Michigan Opera Theatre is southeast Michigan’s premier venue for opera and dance, and is a contemporary cultural-corner stone of the City of Detroit. Located in the heart of downtown Detroit, near Comerica Park, Michigan Opera Theatre offers a dynamic work environment. MOT Crowd Managers work with the Security Team to provide services designed to ensure the safety of Michigan Opera Theatre and the Detroit Opera House patrons, visitors, performers during performances and other events. Through working cohesively with the MOT Security and Events teams Crowd Managers work to secure the safety of patrons, visitors, and performers by regulating traffic control, maintaining access to entrances and emergency exits, and performing security screenings—when required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Regulate traffic by managing the movement of activities and guests
- Monitor entrances and exits to ensure proper egress, in accordance
- Observe crowds in order to keep vigilant watch for signs of danger
- Correspond with the Manager on Duty, Director of Security, and the Manager of Venue Operations to adequately provide emergency care within the existing security plan framework.
- Ensure security and safety of patrons, visitors, performers, and staff, through adherence to MOT security policies
- Ensure security and safety of the venue, and perform security screening when required

Position Summary:
The Development Operations Coordinator (DOC) of Detroit Opera (DO) is responsible for providing both donor relations and crucial administrative support to the Development team. This role is essential to the overall goals of this dynamic fundraising team, which is tasked with securing financial support from individuals through portfolios covering major gifts, annual giving, and legacy giving, as well as institutional partnerships. The DOC is an excellent multi-tasker and an enthusiastic advocate for DO’s programming, performances, and mission, utilizing strong communication skills to effectively correspond with DO contributors, while employing a strong attention to detail to support the Development team in operations and data reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Produce gift receipts and individualized acknowledgement letters for all gifts.
- Oversee and perform entry of gifts, contributions, and pledges.
- Perform regular data audits and assist in resolving data integrity issues.
- Assist supervisor and finance department in completing month end reconciliation.
- Work in collaboration with the Database Operations Manager to perform routine maintenance tasks of the fundraising software, as required.
- Develop and distribute tutorials, processes, and procedures on fundraising software and tools, especially related to Tessitura.
- Coordinate and execute procedures and guidelines to ensure the quality of data and assist the Director of Development Operations and development team with analysis.
- Conduct direct mail campaigns through managing production, timing, and mailing of appeal letters.
- Identify and drive solutions and processes to assist with ongoing development of Telefund campaigns.
- Conduct regular performance analysis of campaign activity to refine efforts and improve ROI.

Position Summary:
Detroit Opera’s (DO) Events Team coordinates, sets up, and executes a multitude of events at the historic Detroit Opera House (DOH), which are unrelated to opera or dance, including touring Broadway productions, popular music performances, weddings, and professional networking events. The Events Assistant (EA) is an integral part of this dynamic team, supporting the Events Manager (EM) in the organization and execution of excellent, memorable events. Through careful coordination and preparation, the EA creates seamless communication and cooperation between various DO departments and outside vendors during events. The EA is a competent improviser and problem-solver, who through clear, polite communication, effectively resolves issues during events. The EA is an enthusiastic customer service advocate, who consistently meets the highest quality expectations from DO clients and patrons to ensure DO client satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with set up and break down of all components related to event, such as registration, gift table, ceremony seating, and signage.
- Power on various sound systems, set up microphones, set up auxiliary cord for mp3 players and computers, phones etc.
- Brief ushers and staff of pertinent event details to ensure they are confident in assisting guests and provide a positive customer experience i.e., transitioning throughout building spaces, directions to exits and restrooms, safety procedures.
- Courteously address and expeditiously resolve any customer service-related issues.
- Be alert to any potential safety hazards or concerns throughout event/performance.
- Interact with clients and guests throughout the event to ensure their needs are not only met but exceeded (for example assist with gifts, personal belongings, procession details, etc.)
- Assist and support the Event Manager in the following planning duties:
- Effectively communicate event details with all clients and their guests.
- Distribute necessary event details to key staff, department heads, and vendors, in a timely fashion before the event.
- Ensure the readiness of the DOH’s appearance by communicating with internal DO Departments ahead of time, including Facilities, Security, Ushers, and Parking Attendants.
- Coordinate with Front of House and Back of House, caterer, and various vendors (florists, DJ, musicians, etc.) as required to ensure a seamless event In collaboration with the caterer, determine details pertaining to food service and food service movement throughout the building.
Required Qualifications:

MOT Event Medics work with the Security Team to provide services designed to ensure the health and safety of Michigan Opera Theatre and the Detroit Opera House patrons, visitors, performers during performances and other events. Event Medics work to secure the safety of patrons, visitors, and performers by providing immediate medical care to any and all individuals who fall ill, to be vigilant of individuals displaying signs or symptoms of illness, to call for or facilitate communication with emergency first responders, and provide crowd management services for the safety of patrons, visitors, employees and artists.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Immediately respond to all medical emergencies in accordance with the relevant procedures and policies.
- Observe crowds in order to keep vigilant watch for symptoms and early signs of illness or medical emergencies.
- Treat symptoms of minor injuries, such as small cuts/scrape, dizziness, nausea, headaches, contacting emergency medical services as needed.
- Correspond with the Manager on Duty, Director of Security, and the Manager of Venue Operations to adequately provide emergency medical care within the existing security plan framework.
- Participate in traffic control duties for large events, as needed.

Position Summary:
Detroit Opera ’s (DO) Marketing team is recalibrating its focus, aggrandizing the company’s presence, reach, and enterprises on social media and other online platforms. DO’s Marketing Operations Associate’s (MOA) primary objective will be to support the Marketing and Communications, and Innovation Departments in their mission to reimagine the company’s social media presence. The MOA will support the departments in day-to-day administration through implementation and monitoring of social media & marketing campaigns; handling of marketing collateral; aiding in the organization of digital assets; and assisting in proofing of published materials.
Term Appointment:
The MOA is a temporary, full-time position, ending on June 30, 2022.
Responsibilities:
- Under the guidance of the Director of Innovation, collects, analyzes, and provides DO’s Marketing Consultants and Director of Innovation with data reports on the reach and effectiveness of various social media campaigns.
- Responds to engagements with our social media audience through direct messaging, collaborating with Administrative Departments for effective and accurate handling of messages within a short timeframe, in a personable manner.
- In coordination with the Marketing Managers, formats various marketing materials for printing.
- Helps in distribution of printed materials internally and externally.
- Works with the Digital Media Manager and Storyteller in the collection and organization of digital assets.
