Michigan Opera Theatre Cancels Spring Season - Detroit Opera

Michigan Opera Theatre Cancels Spring Season

It is with heavy hearts that Michigan Opera Theatre announces the cancellation of the remainder of its 2020 spring season in light of COVID-19.The decision comes following federal, state and CDC recommendations to reduce social gatherings in an attempt to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus and COVID-19. While this is a difficult decision, canceling the remainder of our season comes out of our commitment to putting the health and safety of our patrons, staff and artists first.

The cancellations include:

MOT is offering patrons who have purchased tickets to these performances the option to donate their tickets, exchange them for a future performance or receive a full refund. Ticketholders will receive further notifications via email and are encouraged to follow the directions listed rather than calling the ticket office. Information and refund/donation instructions can also be found at MichiganOpera.org.

MOT is a non-profit, and the financial loss due to the cancellations is devastating for the organization. If possible, MOT encourages patrons to consider donating the cost of their canceled tickets back to MOT. Donations are tax deductible and go a long way to ensure MOT can continue to provide arts programming in the future.

We appreciate the support and patience of our patrons and donors, as well as our corporate, foundation and community partners in light of this difficult decision.

We continue to plan for its 2020-21 season, slated to open in October, and hope you can join us for our 50th anniversary celebrations!
